Who we are
Cygnet Theatre was founded in Paris by an international group of theatre artists looking to create, develop, and perform plays in the classical repertoire. The company is run by a board of administration, and all members of the team serve a creative function vital to the troupe’s ability to thrive.
Following the success of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the decision was made to form a company to produce high quality theatre in the heart of Paris. Our 2019 season opens with Twelfth Night.
What we stand for
Here at Cygnet Theatre, our mission is to increase the presence and quality of professional anglophone theatre through the exploration and production of Shakespeare’s plays.
How we do it
To achieve our mission, Cygnet Theatre,
engages a broad range of voices to promote accessibility to both resources and material
provides a professional structure to support each individual in their artistic role;
employs marketing strategies to compensate artists for their work;
and continually strives to examine contemporary issues through a classical lens.
Why we do it
Cygnet Theatre is sincerely committed to the advancement of artists and production personnel by way of exploration, interpretation, development, and production of Shakespeare’s works. Apprenticeships and assistantships with Cygnet are designed to foster an understanding of the production process, and to nurture interest and involvement in anglophone theatre.
Cygnet Theatre is an association with a board of directors tallying five people and a general assembly that constitutes the official troupe (numbers ever growing and changing). Declared in March of 2019, you can find us in the JOAF under the International Shakespeare Troupe of Paris.
